Javea is divided into 3 parts; the historical centre, the port and the Arenal.
The historical centre:
The old town of the city shows its medieval history by the complexity of the narrow streets and squares. The houses with white facades have large Gothic Windows and balconies with wrought iron gates and Tosca stones. Especially striking is the 15th century Church of San Bartolomé which is listed as a national monument. On the side of the Church is the market, a beautiful neo-Gothic building that was built on the site of the old Augustinian monastery and the Town Hall. Together they form the historic centre of the old city.
The port, Aduanas del Mar, originated as a fishing village but eventually became one of the main tourist centers of Javea by Marina and a thriving services sector. A walk at the end of the afternoon can be a pleasure if the fishing boats arrive and sell their fresh fish at the fish market .
El Arenal, all for leisure:
In the middle of the Bay of Javea is the sandy beach, Playa de l'Arenal, the best known and most popular sandy beach. Parallel to the promenade there is a wide range of gastronomy – wide in variety and quality – and free time activities. Here you can also find entertainment until the early hours.
Javea is a privileged area for sports. The sea and its coasts, small islands, bays, beaches of sand or pebbles and sea beds with clear waters offer endless possibilities for water sports such as sailing, windsurfing, boardsurfing, diving, snorkeling, water skiing, jet skiing and swimming.
Other sports are also popular including golf, tennis, hiking, mountain climbing and cycling. The nearby area has 5 golf clubs.
The best rice and fish dishes:
Eating out is a popular pastime in Javea. The famous Spanish Paella can be eaten in many restaurants and the freshly caught fish is widely available. In Javea there are literally hundreds of restaurants, some by the Harbour, others downtown or at the Arenal with views of the Mediterranean Sea.
